John Bellwood – A Profile

John Bellwood portraitJohn Bellwood began his working life at the age of 17 when he joined a firm of accountants in the City of London.  At Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co (now KPMG) he worked on accounting, auditing and tax, concentrating in the latter part of his ten year employment on reporting on companies which were ‘going public’ and on auditing the accounts of multi-national companies.  During this period he qualified as a chartered accountant, following in his father’s footsteps.  His father and grandfather were also at Peat, Marwick.

One of the companies which was reported on was Rosedale Industries, to which John moved as Secretary and Chief Accountant in 1969.  Rosedale designed, manufactured and distributed toys and housewares from its factories in Gloucestershire and South Wales.

In 1973 John started his own accountancy practice and concentrated on advising businesses on expansion and reconstruction – where the business was struggling to make a profit.   At the same time, standard services were building up in the areas of accounts preparation, the audit of accounts, tax and consultancy.   Although the business of John Bellwood & Co was started in John’s dining room, he soon took on offices in Gloucester and further expanded to Cheltenham in 1986.   The business was sold to Burton Sweet Limited in 2008 and John is now concentrating his efforts on business advice through the medium of Bellwood BUSINESS APPRECIATION Limited.

John Bellwood portraitSome of the highlights at Bellwoods (formerly John Bellwood & Co) had been the turnaround of an oil distribution company, making profitable and selling a retail outlet, introducing financial control systems to a group of publishing companies, arranging the manufacture and expanding the markets of a controllable kite, rescuing a hotel, coordinating the purchase of land and the erection of a 16,000 square feet factory, negotiating and completing the sale of a manufacturing company, and assisting with the arrangements of businesses where a key person has left or died unexpectedly.  John’s background and experience have led him to concentrate now on these subjects -

  1. Helping anyone to start in business on their own
  2. Advising on and implementing plans for expansion and control as well as assisting with decisions to improve a business’s fortunes
  3. Suggesting plans for retirement and being available to act quickly following the sudden incapacity or demise of a key member of any business

John also acts as Company Secretary for Bellwood Prestbury Limited, and for PeopleVox Limited
